 Single Reduction GREAVES Speed Reducer

Greaves Speed Reducers are of substantial construction, combining rigidity with strength. The worm is of high quality case-hardening steel, accurately generated, ground and super-finished. The worm wheel comprises a phosphor bronze centrifugally cast  rim of substantial section welded to a rigid center, which is pressed and keyed to the shaft.
Shafts are located on dual purpose bearings of ample capacity and having a substantial margin on output shafts for accommodating overhung loads.  Lubrication is positive at all speeds, in either direction of rotation and apart from an occasional oil check no attention is necessary in service.  Units are handed 'R' and 'L' with the suffix 'X' or 'Y'  denoting position of slow speed shaft extension. These are shown in the diagrams on the following page and references should be quoted when ordering.

GREAVES Helical Geared Motor.
Strong in all Applications.
Greaves 'GM'- Series

Helical Geared Motors in single/double/triple reduction models are intended to satisfy all the requirements of a reliable drive for slow-speed high-torque applications.  Standard range of Greaves geared motors, available in foot-mounted and flange-mounted versions, offer unparallel performance covering output speed graduated from 9 to 1230 rpm with power ratings ranging from 0.12 kW to 45 kW.  The gearbox and motor built as a single unit looks stylishly compact which ultimately results smooth and silent operation in an efficient fashion.

This catalogue contains specifications, dimensions and ratings for selection of standard gear drives. Our engineers will be pleased to assist in case of unusual conditions attracting special requirements.
Helical Geared Motor
The type PFC fluid coupling when used in conjunction with a fixed-speed motor will give the motor a light-load start, provide smooth acceleration and ensure overload protection for the motor and driven machine. Using a fluid coupling in the drive-line often makes its possible to employ a smaller motor, because the fluid coupling will allow the motor to run quickly up to speed, where its overload capacity may be used for starting the machine.

Starting or stalling torque may be determined precisely by selection of the initial Oil filling. Further adjustment, to suit drive requirements, may easily be made at site. The type PFC fluid coupling is a compact, rugged unit, the major components being aluminum alloy castings. It comprises the basic fluid coupling, diaphragm input mounting and multidisc, semi-flexible coupling on the output side. Bores and keyways may be finished to suit customer's requirements

Fusible plugs are fitted to all but the smaller fluid couplings to provide protection against excess temperature rise should the motor overload trip fail to operate during stall or overload conditions. Vertical applications can be catered for in most sizes
PFC fluid coupling

The type FP fluid coupling is combined with a V-Belt pulley which replaces the pulley usually mounted on a motor shaft in a V-belt drive and can be fitted simply and quickly on new or existing drives. It will give a light load start to a motor, provide smooth controlled acceleration and ensure overload protection for the motor and driven machine.

Using a type FP fluid coupling in place of the standard pulley means it is frequently possible to use a smaller motor, because the fluid coupling allows the motor to run quickly up to speed, where its overload torque may be used to start the driven machineStarting or stalling torque may be determined precisely by selection of the initial oil filling.

Further adjustment to suit drive requirements may easily be made at siteFusible plug are fitted to all but the smallest sizes to provide protection against excess temperature rise should the motor overload trip fail to operate during stalled or overload conditions.

The type FP fluid coupling can be supplied without the pulley sheave (except sizes 7 & 8) thus allowing the customer to fit his own pulley sheave ( or chain sprocket) if required.

Arrangement for vertical shaft mountings are available. An important feature of the type FP fluid coupling is that there is no need to dismantle the unit before fitting it to the motor shaft; installation is a simple operation. Units are available in nine sizes from 0.1 KW to 93 KW.

Premium 'AL' Series Gearboxes
Premium 'AL' series greaves gearboxes are manufactured with high quality material and modern design in order to guarantee the maximum reliability and life.
Housing, flanges and feet are made out of aluminium alloy upto size 090 and for sizes 110 and above cast iron is used.
Worm shafts are made of steel and are case hardened to 58-60 HRC and profile ground.
The thread grinding in the gear ratios that the module value permits is carried out with ZI-Profile. This improves the contact between the toothed surfaces and therefore performance and reduces operating noise.
The worm wheel has a G20 cast irn hub onto which a casting in AB1 Bronze RIM is fitted.
To guarantee long life, ball bearings of reputed make used.

Lubrication of Gearboxes :
Gearboxes are supplied filled with synthetic oil grade ISO VG 320 which is virtually maintenance free and does not require oil change
